I’m sitting here in Singapore about to board and plane to California via Japan … yeah, long trip.

An opportunity came up for me to compete against a multiple IBJJF and SJJIF World Champion a week or so ago. It’s a challenge that excited me and was an opportunity that I didn’t want to miss.

The competitor isn’t in my weight division, 1 or 2 divisions higher. He doesn’t have to spend the 29 odd hours flying half way across the World to compete … but, I knew this when I took the fight.

I don’t think that I’ve ever had a ‘perfect’ run into a big international bout. I accept what the challenges are and I’m happy just to be competing to be honest. Win or lose it’s a challenge and that’s what we are here for.

Giving up time with my boys and Emma during school holidays, sitting in planes and airports for close to 30 hours … the jet lag … the time difference .. the cost just to get here.

All part of the journey and it’s all part of the challenge.
