One of the hardest things about competing without a coach is the ability to see what your opponent is doing or setting up.

I hadn't had a chance to review my bouts from California much (a quick look at the gold medal match) but I've gone back to look and fix my mistakes.

I can see how my opponent set me up for the sweep by using his left 'frame' under my chest to create a space that he could use as leverage.

The first sweep caught me by surprise and it took me a little while to regain my composure and get the points back.

I resettled from the top position and started the pass sequence again, this time taking his frame away and going back to my usual 'torri' style pass.

I'm guessing if I had a coach there to corner me, they would have potentially made me aware of the threat and I would have dealt with it before the sweep.
